Course content
Metabolomics, lipidomics and proteomics are representatives of the so-called omics methods, where a combination of separation techniques with mass spectrometry is applied to study the complex profile of metabolites (metabolome) and lipids (lipidome) and proteins (proteome). These methods have found widespread application in both the understanding of pathobiochemical processes and in the search for new biomarkers in the diseases under study. In the course Omics Methods in Diagnostics, students will be introduced in detail: 1. the issues of implementing the entire proteomic, metabolomic and lipidomic workflow 2. the basic methodological procedures used for sample preparation, analysis and subsequent data processing and statistical evaluation.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture
  • Attendace - 13 hours per semester
  • Preparation for the Exam - 20 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce the students to the intensively developing scientific fields such as metabolomics, lipidomics and proteomics representing representatives of the so-called omics methods.
The student will gain information regarding the principles, methodological approaches and implementation of omics methods.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of biochemistry and biochemical and analytical methods.
