Course content
1. Introduction into Conservation Genetics. 2. Genetic diversity. 3. Genetics of wild populations. 4. Genetics of small populations. 5. Inbreeding. 6. Genetically viable populations and the species extinction. 7. Taxonomy. 8. Genetic aspects of introduced and invasive species. 9. Genetic management of captive populations, reintroduction of species. 10. Conservation genetics of microorganisms. 11. Methods of molecular biology used in conservation genetics. 12. Forensic genetics.

Learning outcomes

Students will be able after attending the lecture: - to explain the genetic aspects of natural and endangered populations - to formulate the basic approaches in protection of gene pool and natural habitats - to aplicate the modetn techniques for study of diversity and its protection - to discuss the problems of conservation genetics
