Course content
- Specialization of nursing within the system of health sciences. Historical background. - Theoretical bases of nursing approach to human needs. Human needs and values. Narrative perspective, life stories, and their use in the field of nursing. Responsibilty of medical staff in relation to their profession. - Diagnostic systems in nursing (OMAHA, NANDA, NIC projects, NOC?). Conceptual models, nursing theory. Methodology of credible documentation of nursing practice. - Issue of Evidence Based Practice. Systematic review. Requirements for the structure of high-quality scientific article and research study. Databases to search for resources with emphasis on nursing. - Implementation of knowledge from the course into teaching practice. - Evaluation of the course.

Learning outcomes
The aim is to provide students an orientation in the discipline of nursing, issues of nursing diagnostic systems and conceptual models. The course introduces students to an issue of human values and needs, the importance of understanding human (and its utilization in nursing practice). The course is aimed at teaching students to search proven databases for the best evidences from nursing practise and teaching them how to use these evidences in teaching and nursing practice. Students should learn how to implement acquired knowledge into their teaching practice, to pass this knowledge on to future health professionals in an appropriate manner.
Student: - has a comprehensive knowledge of the system of health sciences and nursing; - knows diagnostic systems in nursing; - is familiar with the nursing conceptual models; - understands the theoretical basis of human values and needs, is able to idetify them; - is able to use life stories in teaching; - knows the methodology of documentation of nursing practise; - is familiar with the issue of Evidence Based Practice, is able to explain it and give an example from the practice; - is able to prepare high-quality scientific article for publication; - is able to search databases for relevant sources from the field of nursing (to prepare systematic review); - is able to implement knowledge from this course into his/her teaching practise.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Student performance, Seminar Work

Attendance: mandatory at the first and the last lecture, at seminars at least 80%. Semester work of at least 5 pages - finding and interpretation of evidence from the field of nursing research (systematic review of the field of nursing research). Colloquium: Knowledge of the subject matter of thematic areas.
