Course content
Prevention and its distribution. Epidemiological studies and their character. Descriptive and analytical epidemiological studies. Sensitivity and specificity of diagnostic methods. Screening and screening programs. Epidemiology and prevention of cardiometabolic diseases (obesity, diabetes mellitus, atherosclerosis). Epidemic of ischemic heart disease in the advanced world - causes. Epidemiology of tumors, risk factors and prevention of cancer. The importance of nutrition in disease prevention. Impacts of smoking, methods of prevention and smoking cessation. The influence of stress on the emergence of the disease. The importance of physical activity. Influence of air on the human organism. The importance of water for humans and health risks from water. The importance of soil for human health risks from soil. Evaluation of occurrence of chronic noninfectious diseases in the Czech Republic. Health risks of workers in education and healthcare.

Learning activities and teaching methods

Learning outcomes
After completing the course students should be able to: o define and clasify the concept of prevention, o explain the importance of screening for secondary disease prevention, validity of diagnostic tests; o know the significant risk factors for chronic noninfectious diseases, o justify the importance of preventive screening for the early detection of the disease, o evaluate the incidence and prevalence of chronic noninfectious diseases in the Czech Republic and in the world.
Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology at baccalaureate level.
Prerequisites
The course acquaints with the fundamental topics conntected with contemporary civilization diseases including prevention of the most common civilization diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, tumors, diabetes mellitus and dental caries.

Oral exam

Work on PC, Internet connection, submission of written work.
