Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to introduce the fundamentals of social and cultural anthropology as a holistic academic discipline focused on a human, culture, and society which studies the genesis, development, structure, and functioning of diverse socio-cultural systems in time and space. The emphasis is on studying values, institutions, and customs, which are formed under the influence of a social structure. The focus will also be on studying cultures that are going through changes influenced by specific human nongenetic factors reflecting in artifacts, norms, regulations, and ideas shared between the members of the society. The knowledge mentioned above will be useful for preprimary education because its paradigm considers the social and cultural contexts of human life (or human lifestyle).
After passing the course students should be able to: - Explain the basic terminology of social and cultural anthropology, - describe and interpret the main theories of anthropology and the basic methodological procedures typical for social and cultural anthropology, - understand the phenomena of cultural diversity and ethnocentrism. Present arguments in favor of cultural relativism, - present the knowledge of the social interactions in everyday life; - explain the terms conformity and nonconforming behavior; - describe and interpret (from the perspective of social and cultural anthropology) the basic social organizations and systems; - Apply social and cultural anthropology knowledge in particular model situations/examples based on human's real life as a member of society.
