Course content
Krantz, Caroline, Norton, Julie (2015). Navigate (Pre-intermediate B1). Oxford: Oxford University Press. Units 1-6 + materials related to the field of study.

Learning activities and teaching methods

Learning outcomes
This is the first semester of a four-semester course for students with a pre-intermediate level of English. The course concentrates on practicing all the communication forms: speaking, listening, reading and writing so that the students are not only able to communicate on the general English level but also to express themselves on topics related to their main study subjects, i.e. psychology (history of psychology, general psychology). By attending the course and passing the exam, students will reach the B1 level as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Competences: reading, writing, listening and speaking (units 1-6) + complementary materials related to the field of study. By attending the four-term course (APSM1-4) and passing the exam, students will reach B1 level as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of English as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - level A2. Before choosing the course, you can do the placement test in Moodle (user ID and password are identical with Portal UP).

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

-Attendance - maximum 2 absences. Absence is no excuse for not being prepared for the following lesson. -Active participation. -Preparing a presentation on a chosen topic. -Completion of all the assignments. -Final written test (min. 70%). To obtain the credit, the students must fulfill all the requirements not later than by the end of the examination period of the semester they registered for this course.
