Oxford EAP (Pre-Intermediate/B1) units 8C-10E (expressing cause and effect, argument)

Learning outcomes
The course Academic English lower intermediate (1-4) will help students extend their skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) in the field of academic language. They will learn how to read authentic academic texts, understand lectures and presentations, write short texts and participate in discussions. Students will also extend academic grammar and vocabulary at B1 level as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Students will extend their skills in the field of academic English so that they will be able to read and analyse texts with subject-related vocabulary, understand spoken subject-related contributions, and write shorter subject-related texts. They will be able to comment on the presented issues in English and their knowledge of various grammatical features and academic vocabulary will be developed. By attending the four-term course and passing the exam, students will cover academic English at B1 level as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Prerequisites
Required is the knowledge of English language at level A2.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Analysis of linguistic, Systematic Observation of Student, Written exam

-Attendance - maximum 2 absences. Absence is no excuse for not being prepared for the following lesson. -Active participation. -Preparing a presentation on a chosen topic. -Completion of all the assignments. -Final written test (min. 70%). To obtain the credit, the students must fulfill all the requirements not later than by the end of the examination period of the semester they registered for this course.
