The aim of the course is to supplement and expand students' basic knowledge and understanding in the field of methodology and statistics, with a particular focus on the practical application and use of the acquired knowledge in scientific practice, especially in the area of social and spiritual determinants of health. The course will highlight the specifics of the scientific method of inquiry in contrast to non-scientific approaches, emphasizing the principle of measurement and its application to the subjects of social science research. Selected study designs will be discussed in terms of their potential use, advantages, and disadvantages. Part of the course will focus both on theoretical principles and on the practical application of statistical methods to real data. The statistical methods covered will include descriptive and inferential statistics, with an emphasis on advanced statistical procedures such as regression analysis (including effect analysis, moderation, mediation, and bias analysis). The course also provides a basic orientation in the field of scientific publishing and the evaluation of publication outputs.
