Course content
The content of the subject are selected chapters differential diagnosis, emergency events from the perspective of the view of the dental specialist. In practical training the examination methods are taught.

Differential diagnosis of selected symptoms occurring in internal medicine, especially in orofacial area and neck area faced by a dentist. Diagnosis and therapy of emergency situations in internal medicine occurring in dental practice (acute cardiovascular accidents, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, respiratory insufficiency, aspiration of a foreign body, bleeding from airways, unconsciousness, most frequent types of intoxication, acute complications of diabetes mellitus, bleeding into the gastrointestinal tract, fever, prophylactic and targeted therapy with antibiotics, problems of patients treated with corticoids, immunosuppressive and cytotoxic therapy ). Differential diagnosis of hepatitis, diarrhea, viral hepatitis and other viral infections related to dentists. Examination of patients, elaboration of working diagnosis, diagnostic and therapeutic program, analysis of patients related to specificity of dental practice.
Students will be able to elaborate history, assess working diagnosis and propose diagnostic and therapeutic program. They should recognize major symptoms of severe states in internal medicine that could occur in dental practice and propose their solution including first aid. They will be capable of performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Graduates should be able to consider relationship between the abovementioned diseases and states occurring in dental practice, relation to risks of dental interventions and also assess complications induced by dental interventions in case of internal diseases.

Assessment methods and criteria

Of the compulsory 14 practical exercises, the excused absence of 1 exercise is tolerated, and of the mandatory 14 seminars, the absence of 1 seminar is tolerated, due to serious personal reasons or due to illness. Longer absences must be compensated on the basis of a prior agreement with the head of teaching, in the form of a seminar paper or by replacing internships in the relevant department. Practical training takes place in individual departments III. internal clinics-NRE, Hematooncology clinics and FTO according to the prepared schedule. Coat, shoe, stethoscope required for teaching. Access to the locker room is possible on ISIC identification cards. Do not leave any valuables in the locker room. FTO classes take place in demonstration room III. internal medicine clinic. The content of the practical exercise is the elaboration of a complete medical record, including anamnesis, design of a diagnostic and treatment plan. The practical exercise is divided into an individual part devoted to the processing of the above documents and a part devoted to the analysis of patients with the teacher. Participation in the practical exercise will be recognized only on the basis of meeting the above prerequisites and an active approach in the analysis of the patient. As part of the practical exercise, it is appropriate to use professional literature - but not to make an extract from the official medical record!
