The content of the subject is dedicated mainly, but not exclusively, to hematology, nephrology issues in the context of the whole internal medicine. The teaching concentrates in the field of hematology on anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia of basic types and forms, acute and chronic leukemia, lymphomas and bleeding disorders, both from the point of view of diagnostics and therapy. In the field of nephrology, the content is focused on acute and chronic kidney failure and its metabolic a cardiovascular impact, indication and replacement of kidney function, including hemodialysis and transplantation, and basic diseases of the kidneys and urinary tract, including glomerulonephritis, interstitial nephritis, secondary kidney damage (diabetic nephropathy and damage caused by systemic diseases of the connective tissue and vasculitis, etc.). The teaching concentrates in the field of rheumatology on rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis, spondyloarthritis, autoimmune systemic diseases, vasculitis, metabolic diseases of the joint and bone. In the endocrinology the content is focused on dysfunction of endocrine organs and their metabolic impact, diabetes type I and II, metabolic syndrome, obesity and hyperlipoproteinemia. In all parts of the subject students are introduced to the principles of modern pharmacotherapy and they acquire practical skills in approaching patients with these conditions.

The course focuses on providing the theoretical and practical foundations of the fields of hematology, nephrology, rheumatology, endocrinology, diabetology and selected metabolic disorders. The pathophysiology of diseases, their clinical picture, laboratory findings and examination methods leading to the diagnosis of these conditions, modern treatment and prognosis of these diseases are discussed. In the practical part, attention is paid to the expansion of practical skills in clinical examination, the preparation of medical reports, the interpretation of findings, established working and differential diagnoses and designing effective therapy and reducing the risk of their side effects.

Active attendance at exercises and seminars, continuous assessment of the student's performance. Evaluation of the level of preparation. Final credit interview. Exam. Consistent preparation for lessons and active student participation are required. In the lessons, the issues of the lectured material are discussed. Practical exercises then take place in the Department of Internal Medicine III, the Department of Hemato-oncology and the Transfusion station. The practical training consists of the instruction of the teacher, the taking of patient's history, the physical examination of the patient, the compilation of documentation, the proposal of a diagnostic procedure and treatment plan. The part of practical teaching is also a description of X-ray findings, EKG curves and interpretation of available imaging and laboratory examinations. After the independent and teacher-supervised part of the work, there is a part dedicated to the discussion and analysis of the findings and issues of the patients with the teacher. Preparation for the practical training includes the study of recommended literature, reflecting the content discussed in the lessons. The participation in the activity is mandatory, excused absence 2 of 20 practical training and 4 of 40 seminars/lectures is tolerated, longer absence has to be substituted. Course is completed with an exam. |
