Course content
Main philosophical directions of modern ethics. Ethics - basic terms, subject definition, historical roots, sources of ethics. Codes and Principles, Rights and Obligations, Code of Ethics for Non-Medical Healthcare Professionals with regard to Occupational Therapy Profession, Ethical Principles. Ethical question x ethical dilemma. The problem of security and human dignity of clients (patient's intimacy, appropriate communication) with respect to the specificities of the field. Patients' rights and their compliance in occupational therapy, informed consent and compulsory confidentiality. The problem of the safety and human dignity of clients with regard to treatment procedures. Topic of work with child patient, mentally / physically handicapped client, client suffering from Alzheimer's disease, theme of ethnic groups, foreigner patient / foreigner physician.

Learning outcomes
The course focuses on ethical issues of occupational therapy. It introduces the integration of ethical principles into ethical codes and also touches on the ethical dilemmas in the behavior and behavior of occupational therapists towards clients / patients, with the humanization of interpersonal relationships between the occupational therapist and the patient, between the occupational therapist and colleagues. It explains ethical principles and basic ethical concepts, introduces urgent questions in the ethics of ergotherapy and also the standards used to solve them.
Upon completion of the course, the student - as a future occupational therapist - understands the philosophical, professional, and social foundations of healthcare ethics and their relevance to client-centered care. She is able to identify and address ethical issues related to promoting autonomy, social inclusion, setting realistic goals, and protecting the dignity and rights of people with disabilities. She can apply ethical principles when making decisions in complex or sensitive situations, such as working with clients with intellectual disabilities, altered consciousness, or those in socially disadvantaged conditions. She is familiar with the principles of informed consent, confidentiality, and respect for cultural diversity. She understands the role of the occupational therapist not only as a clinician, but also as an advocate for the client's needs within the healthcare and social care systems.
Prerequisites
The prerequisites for studying the course Ethics from the perspective of an occupational therapy student include a basic understanding of health and social care, particularly in relation to supporting independence, inclusion, and quality of life for people with disabilities or functional limitations. The student should be able to reflect on human behavior in terms of values, dignity, autonomy, and the meaningfulness of everyday activities. A readiness to consider ethical issues related to motivation, cooperation, personal boundaries, and the protection of the rights of vulnerable groups is expected. The ability to understand professional texts, analyze ethical aspects of case studies, and engage in respectful, professional discussions on sensitive topics is essential.
