Course content
I.Block Definition of the subject of ethics. Philosophical - historical roots of nursing ethics. Sources of Nursing Ethics. II.Block Code and Ethical Principles. Rights and obligations. III.Block Ethical problems and their solutions. Ethical questions and dilemmas. IV.Block Large and small ethical topics V.Block Informed consent and obligatory confidentiality VI.Block Ethical issues related to the origin of life VII.Block Palliative care, death, dying and euthanasia.

Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes of the course unit The course focuses on ethical issues of performing non-medical health professions. It introduces the integration of ethical principles into ethical codes in health care and touches on ethical dilemmas in the behavior of health professionals towards clients / patients. Students get acquainted with ethical principles, with urgent questions in the ethics of non-medical healthcare professions and with the values used to address them and generally large and small ethical issues. It also focuses on compulsory silence and informed consent.
Upon completion of the course, the student - as a future pediatric nurse - understands the philosophical and historical foundations of healthcare ethics and their relevance to caring for children and families in contemporary practice. The student is able to distinguish ethical issues from ethical dilemmas and apply relevant ethical principles and professional codes when addressing situations encountered in pediatric nursing, including collaboration with parents and other professionals. They are capable of sensitively reflecting on complex topics such as ethical aspects of end-of-life care, informed consent from legal guardians, assent in adolescents, and ethical considerations in donation and reproduction. The student is familiar with the principles of confidentiality and understands the moral rights and duties of healthcare professionals and employers. They are able to apply ethical decision-making models and the principle of justice in everyday pediatric care, taking into account the child's needs, age, and psychosocial context.
Prerequisites
Students are expected to have a basic understanding of healthcare practice, particularly in relation to the care of children and their families. They should be able to reflect on human behavior in terms of values, responsibility, dignity, and the best interests of the child. A willingness to engage in respectful discussion of moral and ethical issues including those involving legal guardians is essential. Students should also have foundational knowledge of the healthcare system, patients' rights, and the role and responsibilities of non-medical healthcare professionals. The ability to comprehend professional texts, work with case-based examples, and express themselves appropriately and empathetically when addressing ethically sensitive topics is also required.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Dialog

Attendance at lessons (90%). Continuous active solution of assigned tasks. (meeting 80% of the tasks solved in the lessons or seminar work corresponding to the topics of the unfulfilled task).
