Course content
Introduction to professional Czech for non-physician healthcare professionals Specialized terminology in physiotherapy (anatomy, kinesiology, diagnoses, procedures) Communication with patients: medical history, education, instructions, and feedback Communication within the healthcare team: information exchange, consultations, medical records Working with authentic professional texts (articles, case studies, patient information materials) Selected types of medical documentation (records, reports, recommendations) Intercultural aspects of communication in healthcare

Learning outcomes
This course focuses on developing professional language skills in the field of physiotherapy and healthcare. Its aim is to deepen students? knowledge of Czech healthcare terminology and enhance their communication competencies essential for everyday clinical practice. Students will become familiar with vocabulary used in medical documentation, as well as in oral and written communication with patients and healthcare professionals. Emphasis is placed on working with authentic texts, scholarly articles, and case studies, and on improving the ability to conduct structured professional conversations with patients. The course also includes practice in communication in intercultural healthcare contexts.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: - understand specialized terminology used in physiotherapy and healthcare settings, - communicate effectively in Czech with both patients and healthcare professionals, - navigate authentic professional texts and medical documents, - produce selected types of medical documentation in Czech, - conduct a structured professional interview with a patient, - understand the principles of intercultural communication in a medical context.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

Active participation in seminars (minimum 80% attendance) Regular preparation for classes and completion of assigned tasks Submission of a short professional text or case study in Czech Practical demonstration of professional communication (e.g., conducting a patient interview, presenting a case study) Successful completion of the final colloquium (oral assessment of acquired language skills and terminology knowledge)
