History taking in pediatrics. Periodization of childhood age. Physical examination in pediatrics. Growth and development. Prevention. Screening. Vaccination. Neuropsychologic development and its disorders. Newborn - physiology and pathology. Nutrition. Dehydration. Inflammation, laboratory test interpretation. Fever. Fever of unknown origin. Severe bacterial infection. Sepsis, septic shock. Infectious diseases. Intoxication, burns, trauma. DIC, HUS. Evidence-Based Medicine / Practice in Paediatrics - searching for evidence. Case reports. Paediatric oncology. Childhood leukaemias. Essentials of paediatric cardiology. Hematology: anaemias and bleeding in children. Pneumology: chronic respiratory disorders, cystic fibrosis, asthma. Severe acute inflammatory upper airway obstruction. Persistent and recurrent cough. Immune system in children. Immunodeficiency. Allergy. Essentials of paediatric rheumatology and autoinflammatory diseases. Diabetes mellitus. Thyroid gland diseases. The endocrine system. Growth retardation. Disorders of pubertal development. Essentials of paediatric gastroenterology. Inflammatory bowel diseases. Malabsorbtion. Nephrology: congenital kidney anomalies, urinary tract infection, glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome, acute and chronic kidney injury. CNS infections. Headache. Epilepsy. Resuscitation. Learning outcomes
Goal of the subject is to acquire basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills through assessing all components of children's development in the individual age groups, the ability to recognize common childhood diseases in accordance with the principles of evidence-based medicine (EBM).
After finishing the courses, student is able to manage the issue of health and illness of a human individual from birth to adulthood. The student will be able to examine a child patient, to assess his/her development in all its components, to find abnormalities. Within the scope of primary and secondary prevention he/she will manage the procedures of preventive check-ups, the day-to-day functioning of the ward, out-patient ambulance including general practitioners ambulance. The student will recognize a pathological finding when performing physical examination on the basis of which he/she should be able to indicate laboratory and other auxiliary examinations and interpret their results. The student will manage general principles of childhood pharmacotherapy, rehabilitation care and psychological support, also with regard to family, school and social environment. The rigorous state examination also involves assessment of a written presentation of a child patient examined by the student (case report) and the search of recent literary resources in accordance with the principles of EBM.

Assessment methods and criteria

Presence during all lectures, seminars and clinical training sessions. Case report - processing of the assigned patient in the form of oral presentation and written processing in the form of a case report. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to manage the health and disease of the human individual from birth to adulthood. The student will learn how to independently and competently examine a pediatric patient.
