Course content
|
The course consists of three parts: Practical language (grammar and vocabulary), Conversation, and Academic Writing. 1) Practical Language: This part of the course focuses primarily on practical language at the advanced level. The lessons develop all language skills, including listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Emphasis is placed on acquiring new vocabulary, grammatical structures, and idiomatic expressions. Time is devoted to keigo, connecting expressions, and systematic acquisition of adverbial expressions. 2) Conversation: During this part of the course, students deal with selected topics. They learn new vocabulary and practice expressing themselves correctly and appropriately in Japanese. Great attention is paid to colloquial Japanese - not only to differences in vocabulary, but also to grammatical and phonetic differences. This part of the course is conducted in Japanese. 3) Written Japanese: In this part of the course, students are introduced to the principles of writing formal texts commonly encountered in Japanese academic settings. They learn to use appropriate language and compositional techniques, identify various structural components of texts, and discuss selected aspects of writing, particularly those that tend to pose challenges for students of Japanese as a foreign language. Throughout the course, we read and analyze sample texts, learn new expressions and constructions, do exercises, discuss, and write.

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of the course is to allow students to further their Japanese language competence on the advanced level.
Students will improve their Japanese language competence at the advanced level - JLPT N2 (grammar, vocabulary, conversation and presentation skills, academic writing).

- At least 70% attendance in all three parts of the course - Homework - Small tests focused on grammar and kanji (practical Japanese) - Submission of all assigned essays (written Japanese) - Comprehensive exam (written test including grammar and vocabulary learnt in JC7 and JC8, translation from Czech to Japanese with dictionary, essay in Japanese with dictionary, presentation of intended Master thesis in Japanese and participation in the ensuing discussion)
