Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to support and develop mediation knowledge, practical mediation skills and the ability of interdisciplinary cooperation in resolving real disputes. Students will be more comprehensively prepared for their own legal practice with the option of choosing the most appropriate procedure for resolving the case. The main core of the course is to prepare for the provision of mediation in real cases. Based on the set criteria, students select a case suitable for mediation and in comedy with the teacher or under his supervision, the mediation is practically carried out. An important part of teaching will be teaching seminars, evaluation of activities and developmental self-reflection. The course presupposes close cooperation with the Student Legal Counseling Center and regional mediation workplaces according to their focus. Knowledge goals: Orientation of students in methods of out-of-court dispute resolution and their possibilities, knowledge of the method of mediation, its principles, process, characteristics of relationships, application areas of mediation, ethical aspects and legal conditions of its provision in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, knowledge of aspects of the conflict situation, identification of a case suitable for mediation according to established criteria and knowledge of the advantages and limits of mediation in practical application. Skills objectives: Students will be able to establish a respectful and trustworthy relationship with clients, orient themselves in their conflict situation and plan the appropriate procedure according to the subject of the dispute and the needs and interests of the parties. They will learn to structure the process of mediation and lead it using especially the techniques of active listening and negotiation. They will gain the skill of self-reflection and perceptive reflection of clients. The course will contribute to the personal and professional development of the student.
The student will gain knowledge and skills for the performance of mediation in real cases. They will get acquainted with what mediation is, how it is characterized, what sources it is based on and what principles it works on. They will be able to establish a respectful and trustworthy relationship with clients, structure the mediation process and lead it using especially the techniques of active listening and negotiation. He will have an overview of the areas of application of mediation. The student will combine theoretical knowledge with the skills of mediation, strengthen their communication skills and the ability of interdisciplinary and teamwork.

Registration for the course is not conditioned by completing any other course or year of study.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

The student participates in all parts of the teaching (introductory workshop of the Student Legal Counseling Center, seminars according to the schedule, own mediation at the agreed time) with the fulfillment of the assigned tasks. Those interested in the subject will be selected in a selection procedure on the basis of an application stating the motivation. The subject is mainly skillful in nature. Students' practical performance will be the basic criterion for their evaluation.
