Learning outcomes
In the course Health Law, in the winter semester of the academic year 2025/2026, students will focus on the area of involuntary hospitalizations in the form of an analysis of specific cases and the preparation of a strategic document with the aim of changing the current legal situation in the Czech Republic. In doing so, they will learn about the basic elements of health law in the Czech Republic from the patient's perspective (informed consent, right to free healthcare, provision of care without consent, etc.). The course will be implemented in a practical form based on the active involvement of students: in addition to the preparation of the analysis, we will also work on case studies, engage in guided discussions with experts from practice so that after the completion of the course students are prepared for model situations that may occur in practice. In addition to deepening their knowledge of health law and human rights, students in the course will develop critical and creative thinking, problem analysis and solving, argumentation, and professional writing skills. Participation of students from other faculties of UP is highly welcome as it will enhance the interdisciplinary nature of the course by adding a non-legal perspective.
In this subject, students will link theoretical knowledge of different areas of law and other sciences to get better understanding of functioning of health care in practice. They will develop professional skills such as analysis and problem solving, drafting legal documents, communication with a client and others.
