Course content
|
ORAL EXAMINATION 1) student introduction (max. 5 minutes) - field of study, internships abroad, contact with a foreign language, publications, etc.; - answering any questions based on the submitted CV; 2) PhD project presentation (max. 15 minutes: 10 minutes presentation + 5 minutes discussion) - presentation of the dissertation - content, objectives, methods, etc. (max. 10 slides); - answering any questions related to the presentation and/or the dissertation; 3) work with a scientific text (max. 15 minutes) - summary of the scientific article, justification of the choice of the article, link to the field of study and/or to the dissertation; - answering any questions related to the selection or content of the article. WRITTEN MATERIALS (to be submitted by the student at least 10 working days before the oral examination electronically (silvie.valkova@upol.cz) 1) structured CV; 2) slides of the PhD project presentation in Powerpoint of up to 10 slides (including introduction and conclusion); 3) a scientific article related to the dissertation and/or field of study of 10-30 pages.

Learning outcomes
|
The examination in a foreign language (English) in doctoral studies verifies the linguistic competence of doctoral candidates in specialized language at the B2/C1 level. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to communicate in the field of doctoral studies (linguistic, literary-cultural, social-scientific fields).
By taking the exam, Ph.D. student will demonstrate the ability to communicate in a foreign language at B2/C1 level in professional terms.

Prerequisites
|
Knowledge of the language at B2/C1 level. Ability to present the doctoral thesis in a clear and engaging manner, ability to read scientific literature and summarize the content of the selected text.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral exam
Students register for the course in the winter semester and can take the exam throughout the academic year. Students can find up-to-date information in the course CJV/91ADA on Moodle. Students are required to attend one tutorial to familiarise themselves with the form and content of the exam. In Stag, the dates appear as schedule events.
