Course content
Practical training in the ambulance and work on surgical ward. Introducing to the work on the ward (wardrounds, admission of patients, small surgical procedures: sutures, repositiones of fractures, casting techniques, asistance on the theatre). Basic orientation in practical perioperative care of surgical patients from admission to release. The student will be introduced to the diagnostic process and indications for surgical procedures, assisting at basic operations, postoperative care and determining subsequent care.

Learning outcomes
The content of the course is training of practical surgical skills following the theoretical lessons of Surgery 1 block. Introduction to the work at the surgical wards (ward-rounds, admission of patients), outpatient department (small surgical procedures, sutures) and assistance at the operation theatre.
After completing the clinical training, the student is able to work with the documentation of the surgical patient, including the imaging system (PACS), is able to assist the surgeon in basic operations and perform simple surgical operations (extraction of sutures, drains, skin sutures) under supervision.

Good theoretical knowledge of surgery, completion of the Surgery 1 course including the final exam.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

Active attendance of practical trainings. During practical training we assess: - how the student has mastered the examination of a surgical patient, - orientation in the diagnostic methods used in surgery, practical skills.
