Course content
|
Credits are awarded for active participation in the workshop organized by the project CHINET and electronic submission of workshop evaluation (feedback) about 500 words. Schedule of workshops will be announced during the semester. The workshops are taught in Czech, English or Chinese. Workshops are led by invited foreign or local experts in one thematic area (1. Cultural Anthropology of China, 2. Modern China, 3. Chinese Literature, 4. Chinese Linguistics, 5. Chinese History and Religion). Winter Semester 2015: 1. Basic conflicts: left and right in Korea 2. Hallyu Korean culture? 3. Cheonanham, Seweolho: two ship-sinkings that shaked the nation and why? 4. Egalitarianism or class consciousness: the nut-rage scandal and the things around 5. Schooling: education-craze, school-uniforms, after-school, free-lunch, admission exam, 3rd class universities, admission fees, university rankings etc. 6. Ageing and birth rate: social issues because of demographic changes 7. Multicultural Korea? Immigration and international marriage as social issues 8. Ethnic Koreans from China 9. Suicide: reasons to kill oneself and the pursuit of happiness in Korea 10. Leading media and alternative media (daean eollon) 11. South-Korean Anti-North activists 12. The collaborator-issue: chinilpa and chinjungpa 13. Seonjinguk-discourse: Korea as a rich country or still a developing one?

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the workshop is to acquaint students with the latest trends in Chinese Studies (themes: 1. Cultural Anthropology of China, 2. Modern China, 3. Chinese literature, 4. Chinese Linguistics, 5. Chinese History and Religion).
During the workshop, participants will learn about the current research of Korean culture.

Prerequisites
|
The workshop is recommended for all students of Chinese Philology or Palacky University who want to expand their horizons on the latest research trends in the field of Chinese studies. Winter semester 2015: The course will be held in English.
