Course content
|
Lectures are aimed at cultivated and wild-growing plants with regard to their use. Domestication and cultivation of crops. Centres of origin. Cereals. Leguminous. Tuber crops. Fruit trees and shrubs. Nut trees. Beverage crops. Herbs and spices. Vegetables. Adaptogens. Toxic plants. Oilseed and sugar crops. Fibre crops. Examples of cultivated plants, fruits and seeds with focus to vegetables and special crops. Excursions to Botanical Garden of Faculty of Science Palacký University in Olomouc, Centre of Applied Research of Vegetables and Special Crops of CRI and Florcenter, ltd.

Learning outcomes
|
Subject is aimed at origin, distribution, requirements for growing, botanical characterization, agricultural importance, cultivation and the way of utilization of useful plants.
Student should be able to (after attending the course): Interpret crop evolution under domestication. Characterize important species of cereals, leguminous, tuber crops, fruit trees and shrubs, nut trees, beverage crops, herbs and spices and vegetables with regard to their use.

Pass lectures from general biology and biological classification of plants.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Mark, Oral exam
Knowledge of the lectures including practical determination of useful plants, their fruits and seeds.
