        The goal of the exercise is to convey a basic understanding of fundamental concepts of software engineering, their practical implementation and particularly their coupling with established geographic methods and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). A particular focus is dedicated to object-oriented programming with Java and web-based technologies for geographic applications. Students learn practical aspects of software engineering in the geoinformatics domain including specific technologies such as GeoTools, GeoServer, Google Earth, Google Maps, OpenLayers a.o.
