Course content
The course is focused on creation and development of open-source tools for geographic information systems with open code (eg GRASS GIS, SAGA GIS, Quantum GIS, R, MeshLab). In the introductory part, the student gets acquainted with the concept of open-source software, license terms for using software and its source code. System and application conditions and possibilities of development of own tools will be characterized for selected systems. The practical tasks are conceived as part of the solution of tasks for specific topics of dissertation theses. Key topics are: open source / free software in geospatial software development, licensing terms and intellectual property protection, structure, organization of creation, and technical aspects of creating open source software, community model of software creation, programmer-user interaction, application capabilities in selected areas, interconnection of various software in solving geospatial tasks in application practice.
