The presented topics extend students' knowledge in the field of geographic and digital cartography and complement it with insights from graphic design, pre-press preparation, and other aspects of cartographic design. The course is practically oriented and provides a foundation for the completion of exercises and the seminar project. In their work, students apply their existing knowledge of Geographic Information Systems and further develop it by acquiring skills in the use of graphic software focused on vector and raster data, as well as desktop publishing (DTP) tools. The course covers the following topics: - The design process - Publishing options for cartographic products - Introduction to graphic software - Practical work with vector data - Practical work with raster data - Practical aspects of layout and publication design - Improvement of a map poster and graphic preparation of cartographic products - Creation and integration of advanced design elements - Preparation of print data and export of outputs - Excursion to professional printing facilities

The course provides detailed information on cartographic design. Its objective is to familiarize students with fundamental theoretical concepts and, in particular, with their practical application in the process of cartographic production. The knowledge and skills acquired during the first year of study are further developed and deepened in the context of professional map design and production. The course also covers principles of graphic design and desktop publishing (DTP), which are applied in the design and realization of cartographic works. Enrollment in the course is conditional upon prior completion of KGI/GEOKA and KGI/DIGKA.
The course provides detailed information on cartographic design and focuses on both theoretical foundations and their practical application in the process of cartographic production. The knowledge and skills acquired during the first year of study are further systematically developed and deepened in the context of professional map production. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: - apply principles of cartographic design in the creation of both thematic and reference maps, - design an effective visual hierarchy and a balanced map composition, - work with color, typography, and cartographic symbols in accordance with the principles of visual communication, - critically evaluate the aesthetic and functional quality of cartographic products, - use graphic design and desktop publishing (DTP) tools in the preparation of cartographic outputs, - manage the map production process from conceptual design to final output.
