Course content
Introduction and fundamentals of geology, position of geology among other sciences. Earth structure, geophysical model, Earth crust, mantle and core, Litosphere. Evolution of continental and ocean crust. Main geological processes: magmatism, metamorphism and sedimentation. Description and characteristics of geological bodies. Principles of structural geology. Earthquakes. Theory of plate tectonics and its basic principles, explanation of main structures: convergent, divergent and transform boundaries. Relation of plate tectonics to magmatic, metamorphic and sedimentary processes, origin of tectonic structures. Exogenic and endogenic geological processes. Weathering and erosion, slope movements, rain water activity, water courses, groundwater. Frost and ice activity, oceans and lakes. Geological time and its measuring, stratigraphy and stratigraphic chart. The relationship between geology and geomorphology.
