Course content
Introduction to drug discovery. Interaction of drugs with molecular targets. Fate of drugs in the body - absorbtion, distribution, excretion. Fate of drugs in the body - metabolism. Prodrugs. Identification of active compounds. Natural compounds as drugs and inspiration. Functional groups occurring in active compounds. Strategies o structure modifications. Biotechnology in drug development and production (antibodies, aptamers, siRNA, stem cells ...). Cheminformatics in drug development. Farmacogenomics. Clinical trials. Drug approval. Case studies.

Describe and explain basic principles and strategies of medicinal chemistry.

60% points in test. Discussion of a selected topic in the oral exam.
