Course content
Sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) followed by western blotting. Immunochemical detection of proteins transferred on PVDF membrane. Analysis of sugars using HPLC. Analysis of biogenic amines using liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. Light microscopy. Isoelectric focusing. Bioinformatic approach to protein analysis. PCR - identification of transformed bacterial colonies. Enzyme kinetics.

Learning outcomes
Students perform practical experiments with the aim to acquire skills in advanced separation and instrumental methods that are used in biochemical laboratories.
To apply and practice fundamental biochemical procedures and methods.
Prerequisites
Students are expected to have the knowledge and skills obtained from successful completion of the following courses and laboratory practicals: KBC/BCH Fundamentals of Biochemistry, KBC/BIME Biochemical Methods and KBC/BCHC Laboratory practicals in Biochemistry.
