Discussed species will be characterised in major biological aspects: taxonomy and systematics, phytogeography, ecology and physiology of carnivory in general. Integral part of the course is a practical training in cultivation and use of carnivorous plants. Carnivory in plants Trapping mechanisms Digestion of prey Reproduction Systematics and taxonomy Distribution and phytogeography Ecology Cultivation Breeding and hybridisation Genera: Nepenthes, Dionaea, Sarracenia, Aldrovanda, Darlingtonia, Pinguicula, Heliamphora, Cephalotus, Byblis, Drosera, Utricularia, Polypompholyx, Genlisea, Drosophyllum, Roridula, Triphyophyllum, Brocchinia, Catopsis.

Aim of this course is to introduce to students the native and cultivated species of carnivorous plants.

Student should be able to (after attending the course): - cultivate most of carnivorous plants - classify all genera and most important species of carnivorous plants - describe their phytogeography, ecology and their morphoogical and physiological adaptations - apply theoretical knowledge of biological characteristics in adequate cultivation
