Course content
Disease symptoms, pathological anatomy and cytology of plants Pathogen recognition by the host plant, signaling ROS and RNS metabolism, the role of oxidative stress in plant defense mechanisms, lipoxygenases, membrane disruption, hypersensitivity reactions Phytohormones in biotic stress of plants, other signaling and defense substances Induced resistance in plants (LAR, SAR, ISR, SIR, MIR), history of research and use in plant protection Pathogenesis and primary metabolism of plants (influence of pathogens on photosynthesis and sugar translocation, plant respiration) Pathogenesis and secondary metabolism of plants, production of defense molecules (phenolic compounds, phytoalexins) Case study: downy mildews (Peronosporales, "downy mildews") Case study: powdery mildews (Erysiphales, "powdery mildews")
