Course content
The aim is to provide deeper insight into principles and applications of mass spectrometry, information concerning new knowledge and to develop student´s abilities to solve research tasks and routine applications of mass spectrometry. Attention is focused on theory describing behavior of analytes in the course of mass spectrometric analysis (ionization of analytes, separation of ions, their fragmentation), on instruments (ion sources, mass analyzers, ion detection, vacuum systems) and data interpretation. Student acquaints with new procedures and techniques in mass spectrometric analysis (e.g. ambient ionization, mass spectrometry imaging, development of mass analyzers, ion mobility-mass spectrometry, miniaturization of mass spectrometers), with application of mass spectrometry in various fields, e.g. drug development, metabolomics, biomarkers, clinical applications, food analysis, forensic and security applications, analysis of art objects

Learning outcomes
To offer students more detail insight to principles and application possibilities of mass spectrometry, information concerning new knowledge and to develop their skills to solve research as well as routine tasks using mass spectrometry.
To explain actual trends in mass spectrometry, on the basis of deeper knowledge of basic principles to choose a suitable procedure for a mass spectrometric analysis and to interpret obtained data.

Oral exam

To become acquainted with the subject matter according to guarantor or teacher recommendations and prove capability to explain and discuss given topic.
