Course content
The seminar is recommended for the students of first year of bachelor chemistry programs of the Faculty of Science. It is focused on repetition and deepening of calculation skills, clarification of basic principles of functions and graphs and practice of high school basics of calculus. The studied material consists mostly of chemistry-related exercises. Quantities and their basic operations. Power and roots including fractional and negative powers, logarithms. SI units and their conversions. Use of direct and inverse proportion as a mens of solving chemical problems. Compound fractions and related calculations, fraction reduction. Polynomes, and binomial theorem. Functions, their properties and graphs: linear, power, exponential, logarithmic, goniometric functions. Equations, inequations, systems of equations - methods of their solutions. Linear, quadratic, irrational, exponential, logarithmic, goniometric equations. Basics of calculus: limits, derivation and its applications, use of derivation for determination of function features; primitive function, integral, definite integral and its applications.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to utilize mathematical calculations in the field of analytical chemistry.
Revision of applications of mathematical operations, math-problem solving skills.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of mathematics on the high school level.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

To pass the course regular attendance is needed with maximum of 2 absences. A small test is written in the beginning of each seminar to revise the curriculum of the previous lesson. Results of these tests (points gained) influence the requirements for the final written test: 50 % of points gained equal to 75 % of points needed from the final test, lower percentage increases the amount needed (up to 100 % with 0 points gained during the semester) and higher percentage lowers the amount needed (up to automatic credit assignment with 90+ % of points gained during the semester).
