Course content
Content: 1. Global and regional problems of environment. Evolution of international environmental protection and international environmental law. 2. Sustainable development concept. Principles of international protection and environmental law. 3. Sources of international environmental law. International environmental treaties and their application in the Czech legal order. 4. Subjects of international environmental law. Institutional guarantees of environmental protection on international level. 5. European Court of Human Rights and environmental protection. 6. Liability of states for international unlawful conduct in the area of environmental protection. International liability for damages on environment. 7. Dispute resolution in international environmental law. 8. The Aarhus Convention: Right to information about environment; participation of public in environmental protection. 9. Protection of air, ozone layer and climate system of Earth. 10. Protection of nature and landscape in global and regional treaties. CITES convention: international trade with endangered species. 11. Protection of water and international watercourses, protection of seas. 12. International environmental protection against sources of pollution.

Learning outcomes
Objective of this subject is to allow students interested in specialising in environmental law, to deepen their knowledge from compulsory subject Environmental Law with international dimension of environmental protection and closely get to know the most significant environmental protection international treaties and also important international cases and relevant case law of European Court of Human Rights and International Court.
By attending the EU Environmental Law course the students will broaden their knowledge of environmental law and practise thein analytical and presentation skills.

Student performance

Colloquy is obtained based on active participation of the student in the course activities and based on knowledge and development of appropriate skills.
