Course content
1. Introduction to the international, European and the Czech environmental law. 2. Principles of environmental law. 3. Sources of environmental law. 4. Implementation and enforcement of environmental law. 5. Courts and environmental protection (International Court of Justice, European Court of Justice, Czech courts). 6. Public participation in environmental protection. 7. Environmental Impact Assessment. 8. Voluntary instruments of environmental protection (eco-labelling, EMAS). 9. Legal regime of nature protection, including the relevant case-law. 10. Legal regime of water protection, including the relevant case-law. 11. Legal regime of waste treatment, including the relevant case-law. 12. Legal regime of chemical substances treatment, including the relevant case-law.

Learning outcomes
Both European as well as international environmental law significantly influence the Czech environmental law. The main aim of this course is to present the students with the basics of international and European environmental law and to show the connection between the development of the Czech environmental law with the development of environmental law on the European and international level. The course language is English. The subject innovation has been supported by the project Support of Interdisciplinary studies and Study Programmes Innovations at Palacký University in Olomouc, CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0091.
In this course the students will gain the basic knowledge from the field of international, European and the Czech environmental law. Students gain the comprehensive overview of the principles and sources of Environmental Law, its protection and legal regimes of the protection.
Prerequisites
Completion of this course does not require the completion of any other courses.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

Active participation, individual project, final test. The course is finished by exam. The student is required to work with the learning objects, which have been created for the concrete subject and are available for authorized students in LMS EDIS.
