Course content
European law, EC law, EU law, acquis communautaire. Creation of the European Union. Treaty of Maastricht, Treaty of Amsterdam, Treaty of Nice. Supranational character of the ES/EU European parliament and law-making procedures. European commission, Council of the EU, ECJ, composition, competences and powers Sources of EC/EU law Primacy of EC law, direct effect, direct applicability of EC law Indirect effect of EU law, special effects of EC directives, state responsibility for the breach of EC law European judicial system Role of national courts in the process of enforcing of EC law External relations of the EU Charter of fundamental rights of the EU Lisbon treaty - new constitutional developments

Learning outcomes
The winter semester is dedicated to the questions of beginning and development of the EC, the emphasis is given to supranational character of the EC, organizational structure of the EU, overview of the institutions, division of powers, nature of Community and Union law and its relationship with the national law. Important part of the time is oriented at the actual development and constitutionalisation of the EU. The subject innovation has been supported by the project Support of Interdisciplinary studies and Study Programmes Innovations at Palacký University in Olomouc, CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0091.
Students who have completed this course will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the features of law.
Prerequisites
The completion of this course is not conditioned upon completion of any other courses.

Assessment methods and criteria
Seminar Work

It is essential that those students who would like to get the credit must have attendance at these seminars, they have to complete the tasks assigned by the seminar leader and they must be successful at the written test. The student is required to work with the learning objects, which have been created for the concrete subject and are available for authorized students in LMS EDIS.
