1. Introduction and basic definition of EU external relations law 2. EU competences in external relations 3. EU institutions in external relations - competence framework 4. External contracts I: classification, effects, conclusion, mixed contracts 5. External contracts II: classification, effects, conclusion, mixed contracts 6. Powers of the CJEU in the field of external relations: individual types of proceedings, assessment activity 7. Common Commercial Policy I: legal instruments, EU competences 8. Common Commercial Policy II: EU-WTO relations 9. Investment law / EU policy (incl. So-called screening mechanism) 10. Development policy and its legal framework 11. European Neighborhood Policy and its legal framework 12. Human rights in external relations

Learning outcomes
The course Law of the EU's External Relations I. aims to equip students with the institutional and legal bases of the external dimension of the EU. The graduate will gain an overview of the historical development of legislation, political and security aspects of cooperation in the mainstream of European integration, get acquainted with the legal and political mechanisms of the EU institutions in the field of EU Common Foreign and Security Policy, including relations with various groups of countries or international organizations. The course is characterized by a multidisciplinary concept, which assumes the involvement of various teachers of the Faculty of Law to address specific topics that go beyond the nature of law, international relations, political science, or economics. The course also offers the use of expertise and specialization of law school staff in terms of EU relations with selected regions (e.g. USA, Latin America, Turkey). The course in External Relations Law I. is primarily focused on the institutional-legal development of foreign and security cooperation within the EC, its changes, and current challenges within the post-Lisbon order. The course is taught by lectures and follow-up seminar method, which allows interactive and more intensive work with students.
Acquired competencies (knowledge, skills, values): After completing the course, the student will be familiar with the external dimension of the EU in terms of institutional and legal mechanisms. They will also learn about the content of common policies, which have a strong external dimension and can be taken as part of EU foreign policy. The student will be able to think critically about the setting of EU mechanisms and policies and be aware of the importance and role of law in external relations.
