Course content

Lecture and seminar topics: The main topics in the tuition will cover the following: " EU citizenship and the free movement rights " Rights of family members coming from third countries - case-study in the position of third country nationals, social and other benefits " Rights of children of EU citizens that benefit from the free movement " Rights of third country nationals under EU secondary law (directives) " Rights of third country nationals coming to the EU under EU international treaties signed by the EU (especially EU-Turkey Association Agreement, but also agreements signed under the Eastern and Southern Partnership Agreements, f.e. Stabilisation and Association Agreements, Partnership and Cooperation Agreements, the choice may differ in every academic year) " Introduction to EU asylum law in context of national and international asylum rules " EU asylum law - procedural and qualification directive " EU asylum law - fundamental rights " EU asylum law -rights of family members/children of the asylum seeker

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is - in a complex way - to acquaint students with legal issues connected to the migration in the EU. The course will cover both intra-Union migration and corresponding issues on the rights of persons from third countries (f.e. a family member of migrant EU citizen), as well as immigration to the EU with a focus on varying status of person coming to the EU (immigration based on the Association Agreements, EU and International asylum law, legal aspects of illegal entrance to the EU). The topics contextually presented during lectures will be in detail discussed in seminars during which students will deal with practical tasks and will work with EU, internal and national legislation as well as with the case-law of the EU Court of Justice, European Court of Human Rights and Czech courts.
Students who will complete this course will gain the knowledge necessary to understand the main principles the EU law and its implementation on national level.
