Course content
European private international law The European judicial area (development of EU law to the current form of cooperation in civil matters) Brussels I Regulation (personal, real, local, temporal scope; civil and commercial matters, international jurisdiction, recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments) The Brussels IIbis (personal, real, local, temporal scope, matrimonial matters and matters of parental responsibility, international jurisdiction, recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments)

Learning outcomes
The course will provide students with an overview of European international procedure law. Students will gain basic knowledge of this field of law, as well as the knowledge of respective specific German terminology. The course focuses on the issue of EU procedural law, which can be defined as a set of legal rules governing the procedure of courts and other authorities and participants, or other persons, and the relations between them arising in cross-border cases. The center of the course are the Brussels Regulations - Brussels I and Brussels IIbis - questions of international jurisdiction (jurisdiction) of the judicial authorities and the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments. Discussed will be also the European judicial area issue and the related regulations in relation to the Brussels Regulations. Students who have completed this course will gain a basic knowledge of European civil procedure law and learn the proper use of relevant German terminology, and be able to understand the problems of international jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments in civil matters within the EU.
Prerequisites
The completion of this course is not conditioned upon completion of any other courses.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

In order to pass the course, students must fulfill tasks assigned to them by the course conveyor, participate actively in the classes, and work out a case. Students are required to work with materials available through LMS EDIS.
