Course content
1. The historical development of Diplomatic law. Diplomacy, sources and codification of Diplomatic law. Internal and external State organs in diplomatic relations. The establishment of diplomatic relations. Ius legationis. 2. The functions of diplomacy. Classes and titles of heads of mission and its members. The Corps diplomatique. The commencement and the end of diplomatic functions. 3. Diplomatic privileges and immunities. Theoretical approaches. Immunities of the premises of the Missions. Immunity of Jurisdiction. 4. Special missions. Diplomatic conferences. Diplomatic law of International Organizations. The ius legationis of International Organizations. 5. Consular law - notion, historical development, sources. 6. The establishment of consular relations. Consular office and its territorial jurisdiction. 7. Consular functions. Privileges and immunities. 8. The diplomatic language. International comity. State ceremonial. Diplomatic protocol. 9. Diplomatic correspondence - basic principles, diplomatic acts, special means of interstate communication. 10. Diplomatic correspondence - less formal and non-formal diplomatic acts, diplomatic correspondence of International Organizations 11. Status of consular officer in the receiving state - taxes, customs duty, offences. 12. Consular functions - administrative, jurisdictional, notarial, registry, in succession and tutorship.

Learning outcomes
The course deals with one of the oldest branches of international law. It focuses firstly on the theoretical issues of diplomatic relations, state organs representing State abroad, privileges and immunities of diplomatic missions and state agents. Then, some practical competences will be dealt with: diplomatic protocol, principles of precedence, diplomatic acts. The course is held in cooperation with International law department of Ministry for foreign affairs.
Students who have completed this course will gain the knowledge about the establishment of diplomatic relations and about the functioning of state's foreign offices.
Prerequisites
Completion of this course is not conditional upon completion of some other courses.

Assessment methods and criteria
Seminar Work

For getting the colloquium, students must fulfill the seminar teacher's requirements of participation and draw up a seminar essay.
