Learning outcomes
The subject Encyclopedic and biographical work complements the complex of subjects within the third pillar of the study program, within its level focused on the development of scientific skills and general abilities of the student. It focuses, as well as subjects bearing the designation Scientific activity in the title, on the development of the student's ability to present the results of his scientific research. In contrast to these subjects, which primarily aim at the student's ability to present research results orally at a scientific conference, the subject is aimed at developing the student to present results in written form in the form of prestigious scientific publications, especially of an encyclopedic nature. The secondary goal of the course is deepening knowledge, as deep knowledge is a necessary prerequisite for quality scientific work. The course is designed as a one-semester course and represents an introduction to subsequent publishing activities in the field of legal history and Roman law. The student is obliged to choose a suitable topic for a scientific publication in the field of legal history and Roman law, with an emphasis on biographical issues, on the basis of teaching in seminars and consultation with his supervisor, to prepare it and to consult it continuously with his supervisor (co-authorship is also possible). In order to successfully complete the subject, it is necessary for the publication output to be accepted by the editors for publication, the text for Biografický slovník českých zemí (Biographical Dictionary of Czech Countries) is preferred (for printed form, possibly electronic).
Knowledge of biographical and bibliographic sources (databases, sources, literature) and preparation of an encyclopedic text.
