Course content
Topics 1. A general introduction to human rights 2. The European Union and the Council of Europe instruments 3. Freedom of expression, respect for private life, freedom of religion. Hate speeches. 4. Conflicting rights in the specific context of the internet 5. The right to a fair trial in the European Convention on Human Rights and in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights 6. The current challenges of immigration and asylum seeking 7. Judicial cooperation in matters of civil family cooperation - marriage, registered partnerships 8. Judicial cooperation in matters of civil family cooperation - divorce and legal separation 9. Judicial cooperation in matters of family civil cooperation - parental responsibility 10. Judicial cooperation in matters of civil family cooperation - child abduction 11. Judicial cooperation in matters of civil family cooperation - maintenance obligations

Learning outcomes
This subject is consequential to elective subject French language in law I., taught in the winter term. Students have a chance to become familiar not just with the theory of EU law, but also current events in Europe. This subject informs the students about history and functioning of EC and EU, their particular institutions and European protection of human rights.
Students who have completed this subject gain knowledge and skills in the field of technical legal terminology from the European Union law and the European Community law and are able to discuss topics from these areas of law.
Prerequisites
Completion of this subject is not conditional upon completion of another subject.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

In order to get the credit it is essential that the students have a regular attendance in the scope set by the seminar leader. The students must also complete the tasks assigned by the teacher.
