During their studies, students choose one foreign language as a compulsory subject from a range of foreign languages (English, French, German). It is assumed that students come from secondary schools with intermediate knowledge of general language (level B1), therefore the teaching is focused on professional legal terminology from the beginning. The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the issues of professional legal language, legal terminology of basic legal branches and legal system in a given language and to compare terminology of a given foreign language with Czech legal terminology. The basic method is to work with a specialized text with the aim of activating the acquired legal language and strengthening the ability to inform about the basic aspects of Czech law in a foreign language. Basic topics: introduction to the terminology of legal branches, legislative, executive and judicial power in a given foreign language in comparison with the given Czech terminology.
After completing the course, the student will know the characteristic features of the professional legal language, will be able to talk about the origin and development of customary law, become familiar with the main features of the Anglo-American legal system, with sources of Anglo-American law and the judicial system. They will acquire professional terms in the field of constitutional law, become familiar with the American constitution - the executive branch, they will know the technical terms and terms used in this field.
