Course objectives (annotation): Legal Russian 2 is a one-semester compulsory elective course of common foundation. It is assumed that students have pre-intermediate knowledge of Russian, as the 2nd foreign language is focused on professional legal terminology from the very beginning. The aim of the subject is to introduce students to professional language, to familiarize them with the terminology of the basic branches of law in the relevant linguistic area, to provide basic information about the legal system in question as well as to compare the legal Czech terminology with the terminological means of Russian law. The basic methodology of the subject is based on work with professional texts in various forms in order to activate the acquired legal language knowledge as well as to acquire the skills and abilities of informing about the basic aspects of the Czech law in Russian. Students will also gain the basic information about the Russian legal system and will be able to compare the legal Czech terminology with the terminological means of Russian law.
Students taking this course will gain the knowledge needed to master the subject. In particular, they will gain knowledge concerning the problematics of professional language and become familiar with the terminology of the basic branches of law in the relevant linguistic area.
