Course content
|
Syllabus: 1. Revision of knowledge acquired in IAW1. 2. Developing critical approaches. 3. Synthesising (combining sources to make a summary). 4. Constructing a research paper. 5. The best practices of writing an abstract. 6. Editing and proofreading. 7. External lecturer - Working with citation managers. 8. External lecturer - Skills in searching electronic information resources. 9. The language of articles, numbers, time markers, punctuation. 10. Building up academic vocabulary: nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs. 11. Building up academic vocabulary: prepositions, conjunctions, prefixes and suffixes, synonyms, collocations. 12. Extension of stylistic features of academic writing - achieving reader-friendly style. 13. Characteristics of legal writing.

Learning outcomes
|
The students will further reinforce their knowledge of the characteristics of writing in an academic setting that are relevant across all disciplines. They will be acquainted with all aspects of proper organisation and structuring of academic texts, further explore lexical and grammatical devices for their proper composition and reinforce ways to avoid plagiarism. Acquired knowledge will be applied in producing own academic texts. In co-operation with the Library of Palacký University, the students will acquire skills in searching electronic information resources and/or in working with citation managers.
Enhancement of knowledge and language skills related to own production of academic texts - i.e. proper structuring of text, use of correct language devices for proper building of an academic text, getting acquainted with citation norms and ways to avoid plagiarism.
