Throughout the course, the students learn about unconventional tools, methods and approaches applicable in intellectual disability intervention. The course focuses on the implementation of activating methods across a wide range of educational levels (kindergarten, elementary school, secondary school). The course is divided into three basic units. In the first part, the students learn about diagnostic materials aimed at preschool children in the area of visual perception and memory, motor skills, graphomotor skills, drawing, auditory perception and memory, speech, basic mathematical concepts, orientation in time, orientation in space, self-care, social skills, and play. The second part of the course focuses on didactic tools and methodological approaches in the area of personality development. The third part of the course introduces relevant course books and a wide range of teaching materials applicable in teaching children with intellectual disability. The purpose of the course is to provide the students with experience in modern didactic tools, methods and approaches to achieve more effective use of activating methods. Subsequently, the students can use this direct practical experience as part of their teacher training programmes. The objective of the course is to teach the students to use the experience in teaching a heterogeneous group of children and at the same time develop their own self-reflection skills in terms of being able to reflect on their personality and social development. In the context of maximum possible coherence between theory and practice, the course includes cooperation with professionals, which is a direct source of information about teaching a group of children and communication with their parents.
