VThe course will be divided into 13 sessions, combining lecture-based teaching (lectures) with discussion in seminars. As part of the seminars, an LLM (AI) will be used as a preparation tool, enabling students to prepare for the seminar by engaging in a discussion with the LLM on a selected topic. The course will focus on the following topics: 1. Sociology as a 'multiparadigmatic' science, or 'Why there is not just one universal sociological theory, and why a single concept can have several different meanings.' 2. Social behaviour, or 'Why people do what they do' and 'Is rational behaviour the norm?' 3. Social behaviour as meaningful activity 4. Social behaviour as human adaptation to prescribed patterns of behaviour 5. Power and authority in human behaviour - the question of legitimacy - the example of the legitimacy of the state, the legitimacy of a teacher's power (authority). 6. Social institutions and their significance for life in society - the institutionalised course of life. 7. Social norms and social control (the problem of defining deviance) 8. Culture - key categories (culture and cultural differences, enculturation and acculturation, culture-specific characteristics) 9. Social stratification (the problem of inequalities in society) 10. Socialisation, or 'How sociologists talk about upbringing and education, and what they focus on' (upbringing is not always in the individual's best interests) 11. Gender theories as a specific lens through which to examine social reality. 12. Social groups, their structure and dynamics. 13. Communication as a process of social exchange and sharing Please note that the order of the individual topics may vary depending on how they are used in the interpretation of current social events.

The objectives of the sociology course is: a) Equip the student with active knowledge of the basic categories of sociology as a science focused on the social fundament of human existence at the level of analysis, synthesis, assessment and application. The mentioned categories focus on the description of the social behavior of a person, his environment, institutions or norms. The mentioned acquired categories should be part of the theoretical basis in the course of the following study, to which the contents of other subjects within the Special Education program are linked. b) Present to the student the basic schemes and rules of "so-called sociological thinking", as a specific approach and way of thinking about the social nature of human existence, the structure of society and selected social phenomena. This sociological thinking as a non-evaluative, understanding approach limits the possibility of the creation of maintaining prejudices and stereotypes, develops a tolerant approach to social diversity. c) Through self-study of professional texts, develop the skill of orienting in professional texts.¨ d) Through discussions within the seminars, develop communicative skills, including the skill of leading discussions and arguments.
After completing the course, students will be able to: - actively use a selected set of sociological categories - create their own definitions of these sociological categories based on their own evaluation - describe and explain the relationships between these categories within the relational concept of social reality - argue their own interpretation and definition of selected sociological categories - apply the acquired knowledge in the process of interpreting selected social phenomena. |

- active participation in face-to-face teaching (discussions, presenting arguments) - preparation for seminars based on ongoing assignments set in the MOODLE LMS - participation in seminars requires preparation through self-study - studying specialist texts in the MOODLE LMS, engaging in dialogue with LLM (AI) on the specified topics, whilst verifying the accuracy of the information. Preparation for seminars may also be assessed on an ongoing basis through short knowledge tests. - Oral assessment - in the form of a discussion testing students' knowledge at the level of analysis, synthesis and critical evaluation of selected issues. In the case of the ISP, non-attendance at seminars may be compensated for by the written completion of continuous assessment tasks set in the Moodle system + an oral examination - a discussion based on the analysis of selected social phenomena using the concepts and theories learnt. |
