Course content
|
Definition of tracheotomy and tracheostomy. Physiology of respiration and changes in breathing following a tracheotomy. Types of tracheotomies, their indications, and surgical techniques. Fundamentals of nursing care for patients with a tracheostomy cannula. Types of tracheostomy cannulas and their use. Basic aspects of communication with tracheostomized patients. Practical training in tracheostomy cannula insertion on a model and providing first aid in cases of respiratory distress in patients with a cannula.

Learning outcomes
|
Students will be introduced to the concepts of tracheotomy and tracheostomy. The indications for tracheotomy will be presented, along with the basic principles and challenges of the surgical technique. The course also covers comprehensive care for patients with a tracheostomy, as well as the prevention and management of complications. Different types of tracheostomy cannulas will also be discussed based on the patient?s clinical condition.
After completion of the course, students will acquire knowledge of tracheostomy. They will understand the indications for performing a tracheotomy as well as the the surgical technique. Additionally, they will receive basic training in inserting a tracheostomy cannula on sirgical trainer and providing first aid in cases of respiratory distress in tracheostomy patients. They will also become familiar with the fundamental principles of caring for a patient with a tracheostomy cannula.
