| Course content |

The content of the subject is dedicated mainly, but not exclusively, to rheumatology, endocrinology and diabetology in the context of whole internal medicine. The teaching concentrates in the field of rheumatology on rheumatoid, psoriatic arthritis, spondyloarthritis, autoimmune systemic diseases, vasculitis, metabolic diseases of the joint and bone. In the endocrinology the content is focused on endocrine disorders and their metabolic impact, diabetes type I and II, metabolic syndrome, obesity and hyperlipoproteinemia. Students are introduced to the principles of modern pharmacotherapy in rheumatology, endocrinology, diabetology and metabolic syndrome and they acquire practical skills in approaching patients with these conditions. Practical exercises then take place at the Departments of Internal Medicine III and the Department of Hemato-oncology. The practical training consists in the instruction of the teacher, the taking of patient's history, the physical examination of the patient, the compilation of documentation, the proposal of a diagnostic procedure and treatment plan. The part of practical teaching is also a description of X-ray findings, ECG curves and interpretation of available imaging and laboratory examinations. After the independent and teacher-supervised part of the work, there is a part dedicated to the discussion and analysis of the findings and issues of the patients with the teacher.

The course focuses on providing the theoretical and practical foundations of the fields of rheumatology, endocrinology and diabetology and metabolic diseases. The pathophysiology of diseases, their clinical picture, laboratory findings, and examination methods leading to the diagnosis of these conditions, modern treatment and prognosis of these diseases are discussed. In the practical part, attention is paid to the expansion of practical skills in clinical examination, the preparation of medical reports, the interpretation of findings, established working and differential diagnoses and designing effective therapy and reducing the risk of their side effects.
After completing the course, the student will be able to use the acquired knowledge in formulating a diagnosis and designing a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure. Theoretical fundaments of hematology, nephrology a selected metabolic diseases. Widening of practical skills in clinical examination, elaboration of the reports, and construction of the diagnostic process. Interpretation of laboratory tests and diagnostic methods with the formulation of working and final diagnosis, effective disease management. |
