This course is designed to develop an understanding of theoretical basis of physical therapy in intensive care. It offers the latest insight into pulmonary rehabilitation, postural therapy and the close relationship between posture and respiration. Ventilation mechanics, muscle activity and respiration parameters will be presented. The course will include actual evidence-based knowledge of anatomy, physiology, conditions involving cardiovascular and pulmonary systems and the various types of interventions for treatment.
The main goal is to gain basic theoretical knowledge applicable in practice. After completing this course, the student has insight in advanced respiratory physiology, diagnostic tests, techniques and methods of respiratory physiotherapy and rehabilitation in patient with respiratory diseases.
