Course content
|
The teacher will select in moodle several actual texts from Dutch media, programs of political parties and discussion fora concerning problems of the society of the Netherlands.

Learning outcomes
|
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. describe how Dutch identity has been shaped historically by culture, politics and social change. 2. Analyze how gender and migration are used as key themes in discussions of national identity. 3. Critically reflect on the impact of globalization and transnational movements on national identity. 4. Understand and evaluate historical and contemporary debates on integration, diversity and inclusion.
After having absolved the course, the student will have better knowledge of the identity crisis in present Dutch society.

Language skills at level B2. Finished subjects NIZ/1GE1, NIZ/1GE2, NIZ/1RE1, NIZ/1RE2.

Student performance
Active participation in the lessons, a maximum of two hours of absence per semester.
