Course content
1. Text theory (theories) as a discipline and as a field. Definition of the text as the object inquiry. The borders of the text. Similar terms: discourse and "komunikát". Main approaches to the text. Text theory and similar disciplines (text linguistics, text semiotics, rhetorics, stylistics, literary science). 2. Key term of text theory. The autor, the text and the recipient of the text. Reception and the interpretation of the text.

Learning outcomes
The Text Theory as broadly conceived is an interdisciplinary field, including work in linguistics, literary theory, communication theory and other fields. Thus the primary goal of the course is to provide graduate students in linguistics, rhetoric and composition, sociology, and other language arts fields with a basic theoretical and methodological foundation for the study and analysis of the text.
Students acquire basic knowledge about fundamental topics of text theory. Students acquire a set of key terms and analytical approaches to text (hermeneutics, discourse analysis, etc.).
Prerequisites
The knowledge of basic terms from linguistics, media and cultural studies.
